HELP SAVE LIVES AND PROPERTY
Chicago Arson Hotline (773)533-3473 or
Statewide Arson Hotline (800)252-2947
Arson affects everyone. Homes are destroyed, burned buildings create blighted
areas, innocent people are injured or killed, workers lose jobs and cities lose
tax dollars. It costs the nation and Illinois taxpayers millions of dollars each
year. Arson's impact on the national and state economy is being recognized more
by concerned citizens and organizations. An effective battle against arson can
be accomplished only by the concerted action of dedicated groups and
individuals.
CASH AWARDS FOR INFORMATION ON
The Illinois Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention (IACAP) has been established
to encourage and recognize good citizenship and to enlist public cooperation
with state and local authorities in the investigation of arson fires and the
arrest of arsonists.
ILLINOIS ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON ARSON PREVENTION
IACAP is dedicated to fire prevention education, the prosecution of arson cases
and recognizing those individuals who have helped convict arsonists. The
Illinois Arson Awards Program is the major tool used by IACAP to assist in the
investigation and prosecution of arson cases. The Illinois FAIR Plan Association
provides funds for cash awards to citizens who provide information that leads to
the arrest and conviction of arsonists. If desired, informants may remain
anonymous.
Since the 1979 inception of the Arson Award Program, it has paid out more than
$200,000 in awards to over 400 individuals.
While authorities are
not eligible for cash awards, they may receive plaques, equipment or
scholarships in recognition of their contribution.
DO YOU HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT A POSSIBLE ARSON? You could be eligible for
an award up to
$2,500 for providing information leading to the arrest and/or conviction
of an arsonist. A statewide Arson Hot Line (800) 252-2947 and a Chicago Arson
Hot Line (773)533-3473 have been instituted
for citizens to provide information, or they can contact any local fire or
law enforcement agency.
